Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich (Viena, 1909-Londres, 2001), historiador del arte austriaco-británico, alcanzó fama global con La historia del arte –obra traducida a más de 20 idiomas y referencia educativa durante décadas–. De origen judío, abandonó Viena en 1936 ante el ascenso nazi y se estableció en Inglaterra, donde desarrolló una carrera académica excepcional: director del Instituto Warburg (1959-1976) y profesor en Oxford, Cambridge y Harvard.

Su legado incluye títulos como El arte y su historia (20 millones de copias) y reconocimientos como título de Sir (1972), Orden del Mérito británica y Premio Goethe (1994). Tras su jubilación en 1976, publicó ensayos fundamentales y consolidó su influencia como teórico, combinando rigor intelectual con un estilo accesible que revolucionó la divulgación artística.
