It is a great pleasure to present before the Magahi speakers and readers a Magahi translation, "अपराध आउ दंड", of a world famous Russian novel, "Преступление и наказание" (Crime and Punishment), a long-felt desideratum, that will contribute towards reducing the deficiency of prose works in Magahi. Moreover, it is the biggest novel, consisting of more than 600 pages, in Magahi. In this Magahi translation, many pieces of latest information on research materials and a large number of footnotes have been added for easy understanding of the text and also from research point of view. Some important pieces of information regarding Dostoevsky's life and works and latest research on him can be found in my Magahi translation of his work "Записки из мёртвого дома" (Zapiski iz Myortvogo Doma - Notes from a Dead House), published under the Magahi title "कालापानी" (2017). Although this novel is available in Hindi translation, it is not a direct translation of the original Russian text, but of English translation(s) of the Russian text. So Hindi readers, who do not speak Magahi but understand a little bit of Magahi, will also be much benefitted from this book, especially regarding latest information.
