Tales of strange apparitions, hauntings and eerie noises had circulated for years among the work force at Old Castle Works, some of the employees had actually left because of such events, when Peter Jackson was appointed works engineer in 1984. A man not given to hearing "things that go bump in the night," he set out to conduct his own painstaking investigations of these seemingly supernatural events. A firm believer that all odd occurrences at the old factory had a rational explanation behind them, he launched his own investigation, the results of which he recounts in "Beyond Reason: A Factual Account of Possible Contact with the Supernatural". For Peter Jackson, the results of his researches have led him to reassess his own beliefs as to the nature of the natural and so-called supernatural forces with which man lives and has lived with from the beginning of time. He leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions.
