Reseña del libro "Diet and Dental Caries (en Inglés)"
Diet plays a vital role in both the development and prevention of dental caries in children. Caries is a multifactorial disease influenced by cariogenic bacteria, fermentable carbohydrates and tooth susceptibility. Frequent intake of refined sugars and sticky foods promotes bacterial acid production, leading to enamel demineralization and cavities.A balanced diet in childhood is important for growth and oral health. Adequate proteins, vitamins, minerals, especially calcium and phosphorus strengthen teeth and improve resistance to decay. Fiber-rich foods stimulate saliva flow, which neutralizes acids and aids remineralization, while dairy products provide calcium and casein that protect enamel.Encouraging children to eat fruits, vegetables, milk and whole grains while limiting sugary snacks and drinks is an effective preventive measure. Early adaptation of healthy eating habits lowers caries risk and promotes long-term oral wellbeing. Therefore, diet counselling and parental guidance are essential in shaping habits that support both dental and overall health.
