Aunque siempre fue una ávida lectora, Kathy no descubrió su amor por la escritura hasta 1994. Fue entonces cuando comenzó a escribir "Un susurro en mi corazón" como un intento de describir a su hija cómo había sido la vida para ella como nueva inmigrante en Canadá a la edad de 10 años. Después del éxito de ese libro, Kathy continuó escribiendo historias de eventos de la vida real que la inspiraron y que anhelaba compartir con los demás.
