Trying to get afloat on a limited budget usually means doing it yourself, hence his home built sailing dinghy that helped him explore Poole harbour in Dorset which gave far more personal satisfaction than a vessel purchased for hard cash. There's even a section about the way that the Navy repairs small boats, using nothing more than a hammer and a lot of foul language. Read about the adventures, trials and tribulations of a form of boating that you won't find at the boat show or at any posh chandlers. It may not be pretty or attract women but will be true to life and hopefully will inspire others to get afloat and enjoy one of our best and most challenging environments. Remember not to take it all too seriously, after all, he spent most of his time laughing at his own exploits, hopefully you will too.
