When we think about work, we still tend to think about workplaces - if we think about reducing work, we think about reducing working hours and spending more time at home. But the home has never been free from work, and with the continued gendered division of labour, women still do the bulk of domestic activities. As two-income families find themselves ever more time-poor, many look to outsource to cleaners, nannies, and care workers. More and more, it would seem, people are finding themselves without either the emotional or the financial resources to take care of themselves and each other. The home, rather than an escape from the work and its pressures, is in fact an extension of it. After Work is a crucial corrective to this trend, extending its attention beyond paid jobs, to the impact of domestic work upon familial relationships, social bonds, and our very conceptions of domestic space. What if we automated housework? In this groundbreaking work, Helen Hester and Nick Srnicek argue that there is a crisis that can and should be tackled. Only by rethinking the way we organise our living arrangements, redefining our domestic standards and remaining open to the automation of work done in the home, they argue, can we imagine a world that is truly post-work.

Nick Srnicek (Canadá, 1982) es un académico y escritor especializado en economía digital y teoría política contemporánea. Doctor en Relaciones Internacionales por la London School of Economics, actualmente es profesor en el Departamento de Humanidades Digitales del King's College de Londres. Su trabajo se centra en la intersección entre tecnología, economía y política, siendo una figura destacada en el movimiento del aceleracionismo y en los debates sobre el postcapitalismo. Ha sido editor de Millennium: Journal of International Studies y ha colaborado con diversas instituciones académicas internacionales.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran Inventar el futuro: Postcapitalismo y un mundo sin trabajo (2015, junto a Alex Williams), Capitalismo de plataformas (2016) y Después del trabajo: Una historia del hogar y la lucha por el tiempo libre (2023, junto a Helen Hester). Helen Hester (Reino Unido, 1983) es una filósofa, investigadora y profesora de Medios y Comunicación en la Universidad de West London. Su trabajo se centra en el tecnofeminismo, la reproducción social y las políticas del trabajo y el género. Es miembro del colectivo feminista Laboria Cuboniks, coautor del Manifiesto Xenofeminista (2015), que propone una política feminista orientada al uso estratégico de la tecnología para la emancipación social.
