Rachel Kendrick is Pentecostal, and while she's falling for Jack, she's got things of her own to work through. She has to figure out how Jack is going to fit into her plans, because she suddenly can't imagine life without her. Her world has been unsteady for a while however. It's not only the shock of falling for a girl that's rocking the ground beneath her feet. Her mother wants her to marry, to be a wife and mother herself. Having grown up in a church that frowns upon higher secular education, Rachel is trying to reconcile her faith with the desire to be accepted into MIT - a desire her parents are unwilling to compromise about. It seems her world isn't as neat and unshakeable as she's always been told.
