Marlen Haushofer (Frauenstein, 1920-Viena, 1970) estudió en Viena y Graz y, más tarde, vivió de la literatura en Steyr escribiendo novelas, relatos y guiones radiofónicos. En 1968 obtuvo el Premio Nacional de Literatura austriaco, pero no recibió el reconocimiento masivo que merecía hasta después de su muerte.
