Maxine Parrick, aka, "M" takes the reader on a crazy carpool ride through nearly thirty years of parenting, from the "not-so-natural Lamaze birth of her first child, to being a good mom to her two daughters, an educator, a writer, a community leader, a "sex goddess" for her husband and ultimately, a grandma. Every woman can relate to the fast paced, chaotic tales of wrestling with one's self-perception as you move from being a single woman, to a wife and then, a woman-who-is-a-mommy. Maxine shows us how to laugh at ourselves and shake our heads in wonder that we accomplish so much in twenty-four hours...and eighteen years!Chaperoning hormonal teenagers to soccer tournaments, hosting an "overly-developed" foreign exchange student ("I just wanted to get her back home not pregnant!"), leading a book club full of mothers so tired they can't finish the book, but can drink the wine, is all part of the joy of this mother's life. When she returns to teaching college, and finds that the "placenta had pulled out my brain tissue," or when she later starts a second career in a high-end retail store and discovers that she really in a mock-up of Game of Thrones, Maxine keeps us laughing. She shares her parenting triumphs, (a mother-daughter stint on Wheel of Fortune), her lapses, ( her youngest points out that skinny jeans are not the same as tapered, ) facing her sixties, and the ultimate payoff: becoming a grandma. "Everything is true, and well, survivable. I'm living proof and none of us are in jail..." she quips. Throughout it all, she reminds us that everything a mom does is About the Love.
