Yet in 1979, the Amon Carter Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, daringly commissioned him to do just that.The resulting 1985 exhibition and book, In the American West, was a milestone in American photography and Avedon's most important body of work. Larry McMurtry nace el 3 de junio de 1936 en Wichita Falls, Texas. Novelista, ensayista y guionista de cine y televisión, McMurtry sitúa la mayoría de sus obras en el Oeste. Creció en un rancho en las afueras de Archer City, Texas y estudió en la North Texas State University y en la Universidad de Rice. Su primera novela, Hud el salvaje (1961) suscita inmediatamente el interés de los críticos y gana el premio Jesse M. Jones del Instituto de Texas de Letras (1962) y la Beca Guggenheim (1964). En 1985 gana el premio Pulitzer por su novela Lonesome Dove. Autor de veinticinco novelas, dos colecciones de ensayos, un texto autobiográfico y más de treinta guiones, McMurtry es más conocido por las magistrales adaptaciones cinematográficas de algunas de sus novelas: en 1963 Hud protagonizada por Paul Newman y en 1971 The Last Picture Show, la obra maestra de Peter Bogdanovich. En 2006, McMurtry es galardonado con el Globo de Oro y el premio Oscar por el guión de Brokeback Mountain. Actualmente vive en Archer City, Texas
