Textile industries in emerging economies face persistent challenges in workforce competence, productivity, quality, maintenance, resource efficiency and technological upgrading. Although industrial training is frequently proposed as a response, industrial performance problems cannot automatically be attributed to deficiencies in individual skills. Effective capacity building therefore requires a systematic approach that distinguishes competency gaps from process, organizational and contextual constraints and connects training with workplace application and institutional learning objectives and final achievements.This book examines the experience of the German-Ethiopian Textile School (GETS) as an empirically grounded case of university-industry capacity building in Ethiopia. It synthesizes successive rounds of industrial needs assessment, programme experience and training requirements across participating textile industries. The analysis identifies persistent capability requirements as well as increasing demand for specialized competencies in areas including fiber science, spinning and weaving, polyester/cotton blends, wet processing, knitting, quality management, waste management.
