Lois Lowry (20 de marzo de 1973, Honolulu, Hawai) es una escritora estadounidense de literatura infantil, conocida sobre todo por su obra El dador. Nacida en el seno de una familia de origen noruego y alemán, su infancia estuvo marcada por los constantes traslados debido a la profesión militar de su padre, lo que la llevó a vivir en lugares tan diversos como Nueva York, Pensilvania o Japón. Desde bien pequeña, Lowry mostró una pasión por la lectura y la escritura, y supo desde temprana edad que quería ser autora.

Lowry estudió en la Universidad de Brown, aunque interrumpió sus estudios para casarse y formar una familia. Más tarde, retomó su formación y obtuvo la licenciatura en literatura inglesa por la Universidad del Sur de Maine en 1972.

Comenzó su carrera como fotógrafa y periodista independiente en la década de 1970. Su trabajo llamó la atención de Houghton Mifflin, que la animó a escribir su primer libro infantil. Autora de más de 30 libros para jóvenes lectores entre los que destacan "The Giver" o "A summer to Die". Ha recibido innumerables premios, entre ellos la prestigiosa medalla Newbery por El Dador de recuerdos. Vive entre Cambridge y una antigua granja de Maine.
