At the beginning of John's Gospel, Andrew encounters Jesus and immediately brings his brother Peter to meet Him. The next day, Philip is called and rushes to find his friend Nathanael. Nathanael responds to Philip's claims to have found the "Messiah" with deep skepticism, famously mocking, "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" However, Philip presses the introduction and says, "Come and see." When they meet, Jesus instantly shatters Nathanael's doubts by revealing His divinity, telling him, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree." Stunned by this intimate proof of who and what Jesus is, Nathanael's cynicism vanishes, leading him to declare, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God!"
This book is the work of two young men, brothers, who have together between them taken on the roles of Andrew and Philip in laying out the Biblical and historical evidence to prove that Jesus is the Son of God, and the Messiah or Christ that God sent to bring salvation to those who will believe in Him.
They go further than making the introduction to Jesus by taking the reader on a journey of discovery in communion with Jesus and its caveats. And in another, broader way, between them the authors act as different-styled gospelers: (A) "Matthew" who argues and presents Jesus as the Christ or Messiah by weaving genealogy and historical correlations to buttress the Truth. And (B) "John" who takes the reader into a deeper conversation and communion with the Master.
The intent and net effect is that the reader may be reinvigorated in the knowledge that Jesus is LORD and that there is no other God besides Him, and that by close communion with Jesus and separation from what is unclean and unholy, we might prepare ourselves to be received by Him into Eternal Glory.
