Jesus: The Unique God takes that ancient question seriously and arrives at an answer most readers will not expect: The Father did not send another to the cross. He went himself. Working from the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament and using the names of God in their original form--Yahweh, Elohim, the Set-apart Spirit--the book argues that Jesus and Yahweh are not two divine persons but one divine identity made knowable in two modes. The Creator, infinite and beyond reach, becomes the Son, finite and reachable, so that creatures who could never approach God on their own can meet him face-to-face. The result reframes the Father-Son relationship, the meaning of the cross, and the unity of the Old and New Testaments. Written carefully and accessibly, the book asks the reader to follow a long argument through Scripture itself and to consider whether the answers most often given have said everything the text actually says.
