Reseña del libro "Psychology Otherwise (en Inglés)"

Psychology Otherwise: The Decolonial Option challenges standard theory and research in hegemonic psychology that takes place in settings characterised as WEIRD (white, educated, industrial, rich, and, supposedly, democratic). The book extends calls for decolonisation by joining scholars from across the global academy in calling for a decolonial turn. The singular contribution the Readsurama Decolonial Collective makes is in beginning from Africa to think through resistance to psychology's "world-colonising" EuroAmerican-centric operations. To the extent that African and other Majority World settings inform knowledge production in hegemonic psychology, it is typically as a peripheral site for exotic investigations on the fringes of EuroAmerican-centric research agendas. Developing and using a decolonial Africa(n)-centring approach (DAC) to theorising and research, the Readsurama Decolonial Collective upends this frame, treating African and other Majority World settings as privileged sites for the generation of basic theories about the present and future of humanity. The book shows the value of a DAC approach as one that not (merely) pushes for epistemic inclusion of typically excluded others, but instead transforms general psychology by articulating it through imaginations of history and the present that reflect the understandings and interests of the marginalised majority in and across the Global South.
