14,38 €Every phone in the grocery store goes off at once. The emergency alert has Tess Avery’s name, her photograph, and a warning:
DO NOT APPROACH HER.
DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT SHE TELLS YOU.
Minutes ago, Tess was buying milk. Now strangers are blocking the exits, police are searching the parking lot, and her sixteen-year-old daughter isn’t answering her phone.
Then a second alert arrives. Three people will die at Mercer Bridge. It gives an exact time-and says Tess can stop it.
As a former emergency dispatcher, Tess knows how warnings are supposed to work. These messages have no identifiable source. They show things that haven’t happened yet. And whoever is sending them knows where her daughter will be.
Trying to trace the alerts leads Tess back to a flood she thought her family had survived. There are records she’s never seen, people who remember her daughter, and a county warning system built to do far more than sound an alarm.
Tess needs to know who’s behind the messages. But with each new warning, she has to make a choice before she can find out whether she’s being helped or used.
