Reseña del libro "The Analysis of Wave Equation in 3D Cylindrical Convex Domains: DE (en Inglés)"
The analysis of the wave equation in cylindrical convex domains is considerably more difficult than in Euclidean space, mainly because waves interact with the boundary which can generate caustics. In this study, we examine the wave equation within a smooth convex domain characterized by homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and assess its well-posedness utilizing dispersive and Strichartz estimates. The wave equation shows a strong dispersive property in Euclidean space. This means that solutions spread out over time, which causes the amplitude to decrease. Dispersive estimates quantify how the size of the solution changes over time, which is what this phenomenon is all about. These estimates come directly from the wave propagator's oscillatory nature and the shape of the light cone. The study of the wave equation in convex domains highlights the delicate interplay between geometry, dispersion, and nonlinearity. While the boundary introduces significant analytical difficulties, convexity allows one to retain enough dispersive structure to develop a robust well-posedness theory. They play a foundational role in the modern theory of dispersive partial differential equations.
