Reseña del libro "The Serpent’s Promise (en Inglés)"
“All I ever wanted was for my father to come home safely. I had no idea how dangerous that wish could be.” I grew up in Beirut's Dahiyeh, a place where children learn to distinguish the sound of fireworks from gunfire long before they learn to drive. My father was an important figure in Hezbollah, one of those men whose names never appear in the newspapers, yet whose decisions shape the lives of many. I loved him more than anyone in the world, but there were things I never dared ask him. When Maram, my childhood friend, and I received scholarships to study medicine in Germany, I thought we were setting out to begin new lives. Far from the wars, the secrets, and the constant fear that something terrible might happen to the people we loved. Then I met a man who promised me something no one else could promise: that there might be a way to know danger was coming before it struck. I asked him for neither money, nor power, nor influence. I only wanted to protect my father. But to do that, I had to keep a secret. First from my father, then from Maram, and finally even from myself. The years passed, dreams changed, and the war I had tried to leave behind crept ever closer. I learned how to save lives, only to discover that there are things no medical training can prepare you for. And only much later did I grasp the irony: even the profession I had chosen to save lives bears a serpent as its symbol. This is my story. A story of love, friendship, and loyalty. Of the secrets we keep to protect those dearest to us, and the price we may pay when we place our trust in the wrong person.
