Layne Redmond (1952–2013) fue una percusionista, escritora e investigadora estadounidense, reconocida por rescatar la historia espiritual del tambor de marco y el papel central de las mujeres en las tradiciones musicales antiguas. Su obra más influyente es When the Drummers Were Women: A Spiritual History of Rhythm (1997), donde documenta cómo las mujeres fueron las principales percusionistas en rituales sagrados de civilizaciones antiguas en el Mediterráneo y Asia Occidental. Este libro, fruto de más de una década de investigación y viajes, se ha convertido en una referencia en estudios sobre música, espiritualidad y género.

Además de su labor como autora, Redmond fue una virtuosa del tambor de marco y fundadora del grupo femenino The Mob of Angels. Produjo álbumes como Since the Beginning y Invoking the Muse, así como grabaciones de meditación y videos instructivos.
