Viktor Emil Frankl (Viena, Austria, 1905 - 1997) fue un neurólogo, psiquiatra y filósofo austríaco, creador de la logoterapia, conocida como la “Tercera Escuela Vienesa de Psicoterapia”. Desde joven mostró un interés profundo por la psicología y la filosofía, influenciado tanto por Sigmund Freud como por Alfred Adler, aunque desarrolló una perspectiva propia enfocada en la búsqueda del sentido de la vida.

La vida de Frankl estuvo marcada por la tragedia y la resistencia: en 1942 fue deportado a varios campos de concentración nazis, incluidos Auschwitz y Dachau, donde perdió a la mayor parte de su familia, incluida su esposa embarazada. Sin embargo, esas experiencias extremas lo llevaron a formular su obra más influyente, El hombre en busca de sentido (1946), que combina testimonio personal con una teoría psicológica centrada en que la fuerza vital del ser humano proviene de encontrar propósito incluso en medio del sufrimiento.
