The publication of Jacqueline de Romilly's Histoire et raison chez Thucydide in 1956 virtually transformed scholarship on Thucydides. Jacqueline de Romilly (1913–2010) fue una destacada filóloga, helenista y ensayista francesa. Consagró su vida al estudio y la difusión de la Antigua Grecia. Pionera indiscutible, se convirtió en la primera mujer en enseñar en el prestigioso Collège de France (1973) y en la segunda en ingresar a la Académie Française (1988).Huérfana tras la Primera Guerra Mundial, demostró un talento precoz al ganar el prestigioso Concours Général. Tras estudiar en la École Normale Supérieure, ejerció como profesora en la Universidad de Lille y la Sorbona. Es autora de obras fundamentales como La Tragedia Griega y Los grandes sofistas de la Atenas de Pericles.Su profunda pasión por la cultura helénica la llevó a obtener la nacionalidad griega en 1995, siendo nombrada embajadora honoraria del helenismo. A través de sus análisis sobre Tucídides y Homero, Romilly dejó una huella imborrable en la comprensión moderna de la civilización clásica.
