Each character in the story is an animal endemic to the Amazon jungle, and lives in the jungle layer where the animals that gradually climb the branches find them. Thus, the history of a chain of accidents becomes a learning about the fauna of that ecosystem. The end of the book, beautifully illustrated with solid, monochromatic images, there is a brief explanation of each of the nine animal species that appear in the story, including the coati, the ocelot, the ibis, and the howler monkey.
