Although classic fundus fluorescein angiography and ultrasound biomicroscopy are still valuable in supporting clinical diagnosis of uveitis and scleral inflammation, the recently introduced ocular imaging modalities are largely replacing the classic imaging approaches. Imaging modalities such as Enhanced Depth Imaging-Optical Coherence Tomography (EDI-OCT) to image retinal and choroidal inflammation, fundus autofluorescence to detect photoreceptor/Retinal Pigment Epithelial changes, and widefield fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography to visualize peripheral retinal and choroidal vascular abnormalities, have been useful in supporting clinical diagnosis of uveitis and related intraocular inflammations. Posterior Uveitis focuses on the ocular imaging modalities used in the diagnosis of various uveitis/intraocular inflammation entities resulting from infectious and non-infectious etiologies. Each topic is succinctly presented by experts in the field of intraocular inflammation and ocular imaging and starts with salient clinical features, differential diagnosis and specific treatment, and concludes with in-depth and relevant clinical imaging findings. The burgeoning technology of OCT angiography of the retina, which can highlight the superficial and deep retinal vascular changes in uveitis, is also discussed. The use of these modalities in establishing early diagnosis, monitoring treatment response at follow-up examinations, and upon resolution of intraocular inflammation is also covered and this volume includes the current treatment approaches with corticosteroids and immunomodulating agents. Moreover, evolving treatments for recalcitrant uveitis are discussed, including the newer biological agents, and each chapter includes ample illustrations and several tables for readers to comprehend with ease the inflammatory disorders and to interpret the imaging changes in various uveitis entities.
