Reseña del libro "Re-Evaluating Women's Page Journalism in the Post-World war ii Era: Celebrating Soft News (en Inglés)"

This book tells the stories of many important women journalists who contributed to the women?s liberation movement and the journalism community but have been largely forgotten by historians. It covers more than twenty-five women journalists, allowing for a broader understanding of women?s page journalism in the 1950s and 1960s. For decades, the only place for women in newspapers was the women?s pages. While often dismissed as fluff by management, these sections documented changes in communities, from the integration of wedding coverage to what was being served for dinner in American kitchens. The content of many of these sections were based on traditional women?s roles of wives and mothers, but as society evolved, so too did the sections. Along with weddings, food and fashion were stories about politics, reproductive issues and employment regulations. These women were smart, feisty, and ahead of their times, leaving behind a great legacy for today?s women journalists. Previous versions of journalism history have reduced the role these women played at their newspapers and in their communities?if they were mentioned at all. This book thus details the significant roles these women played in the post-World War II years, as this era laid the foundation for a changing role for women. Understanding women?s true roles in the journalism industry allows for the discovery of how women have made gains and, at times, have been limited by their gender. This scholarship documents the work women have had toward equality?and the fun they?ve had along the way.
