A mind-changing book. I had no idea that so much of the thinking that we imagine is "European", the ideas of the Enlightenment etc.,came from the contact that writers, especially French writers, had with the tribes of North America after the European colonisation. Th Indigenous peoples could not conceive of the idea of one human refusing food to another hungry human. They were shocked that European feudal societies regularly did so.
